Writing at level A2 — what and how you write in the test

Writing is the only part written by hand in the test — on paper, in blue or black pen: 35 minutes, 3 tasks, 15 points. No literary text is needed: you must cover every point of the task, make the endings agree and write legibly.

Technique: write the ad point by point

The task has 4 required parts (what, what it is like, price, contact) — one sentence for each, and 35 words come by themselves. Start with a verb (Pārdodu…, Izīrēju…), write numbers in words or digits but consistently, and end with a phone number and when to call.

Typical mistakes

A picture sentence without a verb or shorter than 5 words. In the e-mail a word left in its base form (ielūgums ↔ ielūgumu). One required point missing from the ad — most often the price or the contact. Illegible handwriting and missing length marks (kazas ≠ kāzas) also cost points.

How to practise here

Every topic has a writing exercise in the 4 + 5 + 6 format with a model for each sentence, the correct forms with a “why” and a model advertisement with tips. You grade yourself against the criteria (content 0–4, language 0–2) — as a guide. Write the ad by hand on paper at least once and rewrite what you corrected.

Example (task 2)

“Paldies par ___ (ielūgums)! Es atnesīšu ___ (kūka) un ziedus.”

Which forms go in the gaps?

  1. ielūgumu · kūku
  2. ielūgums · kūka
  3. ielūguma · kūkas
Answer and why

ielūgumu · kūku — “par” takes the accusative (for what?), “atnest” takes the accusative (bring what?). The singular accusative ending of the 1st and 4th declension: -u.
