All are masculine (1st or 2nd declension) and written with a lowercase letter.

What's today's date?

Kāds šodien ir datums? — Answer: ordinal + month in the nominative: Šodien ir trešais septembris. — Today is the third of September. Šodien ir divdesmit pirmais maijs.

When? — the locative

For the question kad?, both words go into the locative: Es piedzimu trešajā septembrī. — I was born on the third of September. Svētki ir astoņpadsmitajā novembrī.

Pattern: [ordinal in -ajā] + [month in -ī/-ā]: pirmajā janvārī, otrajā martā, desmitajā jūlijā.

Year

2024. gads → divi tūkstoši divdesmit ceturtais gads. When? — divi tūkstoši divdesmit ceturtajā gadā, or more simply: 2024. gadā (only the last word, plus gadā, actually shows the locative ending when read aloud). 1991. gadā — tūkstoš deviņsimt deviņdesmit pirmajā gadā.

Written from largest to smallest: 2024. gada 3. septembris (3 September 2024). Read as: divi tūkstoši divdesmit ceturtā gada trešais septembris — the year in the genitive ("of which year"), the day in the nominative. When? — 2024. gada 3. septembrī → …ceturtā gada trešajā septembrī.
